A cidade de Gramado e o Festival de Cinema têm uma história sólida, de fortalecimento e crescimento mútuo. São 47 anos ininterruptos de encontros que trazem à cidade atores, produtores e público do Brasil e América Latina para as mostras, os debates e outras atividades paralelas ligadas à cultura cinematográfica e ao mercado do audiovisual. Os dias em que acontece o Festival também mobilizam atividades paralelas, festas e shows, reforçando a vocação turística da cidade. O último fim de semana do Festival é particularmente concorrido, enchendo a cidade de diferentes públicos, entre cinéfilos e pessoas que buscam outros eventos. Todos são bem vindos e o tapete vermelho do Festival é democrático. Os espaços em seu entorno são públicos e de livre circulação. Servem de atrativo para os que apenas querem ver artistas e também para os profissionais do audiovisual que acreditam na importância e na história do mais antigo e respeitado Festival de Cinema do Brasil. Conviver com esta diversidade de motivos e desejos para estar na cidade é democrático e fundamental para a harmonia de tudo e todos. Como sempre fez em sua tela, o Festival de Cinema de Gramado acolhe, contempla e evidencia diferentes estéticas e opiniões, sendo historicamente um espaço para debates e manifestações. O que não se pode admitir é a violência como prática ou resposta a ideias e opiniões diferentes.
